The goal of implantation is to replace a lost tooth with an artificial root that securely integrates into the jawbone, allowing for the attachment of a future dental restoration (e.g., crown).

Below are the steps involved in dental implantation:

  1. Consultation and CT scan, treatment plan preparation

Before implantation, the patient must consult with the dentist.

The following steps are carried out:

  • Oral examination: The specialist examines the condition of the mouth and gums.
  • CT scan: A 3D CT scan is used to determine the density and thickness of the jawbone. This helps decide whether the placement of implants will be safe and successful.

The dentist prepares a personalized treatment plan, taking into account:

  • Which type of implant is most suitable.
  • The exact placement of the implants.
  • The type of required dental restoration (crown, bridge, etc.).
  • The patient’s oral hygiene condition and other health factors.

  1. Surgery – Implant placement

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia, so the patient feels no pain but is aware of the events.

  • Preparation of the implant site: The gum is incised to access the jawbone.
  • Implant placement: The dentist places a small screw-shaped titanium implant into the jawbone. The implant serves as an artificial tooth root, which will eventually fuse with the bone.

All necessary tools, medications, and care supplies are provided for the healing process.
If desired, a fixed temporary zirconia dental restoration can be provided as early as the day after the surgery.

  1. Healing period

After the surgery, the healing period begins, during which the implant fuses with the bone.
This can take between 2 to 8 months.
We use absorbable sutures, so no separate visit is needed for suture removal.

  1. Preparation of the dental restoration (crown, bridge)

Once the implants are securely anchored in the bone, the next step is preparing the dental restoration. The entire process takes 5-10 working days.

  • The dentist constructs the implant and takes an impression using an oral scanner, which is digitally recorded. Based on the digital impression, our dental lab creates the precise, custom-made crown or bridge.
The final dental restoration can be metal-ceramic (sintered), zirconia (metal-free), or Prettau zirconia.

  • In certain cases, a trial may be required. This trial is used to check the precise fit of the bridge before the final restoration is attached.
The purpose of the trial is to ensure that the finished restoration fits properly with the implant, and that it fits well with the gums and surrounding teeth.

  • Attachment of the final dental restoration: The finished crown or bridge is secured onto the implants. This can be done using cement or screws. In this case, the screw is covered with a filling. The crown is the artificial tooth, which fits precisely into the patient’s mouth and matches the surrounding teeth in color.

  1. Aftercare, follow-up, long-term maintenance

The dentist provides instructions for proper oral hygiene and advice on how to care for the implant.
With proper care, implants can last for decades.
The patient must continuously maintain good oral hygiene and should visit the dentist for a check-up at least once a year.

Implantation is, therefore, a long-term and stable solution for replacing lost teeth.
If the procedure is successful, the implants provide a natural appearance and full functionality, just like the patient’s own teeth.
